About us
Sisters Lisa Eisenman Frisk and Monica Eisenman ran The Cookbook Café in Stockholm between 2000 and 2007. Boasting Sweden's largest selections of cookbooks, The Cookbook Café has also been a highly popular lunch spot and was voted one of Stockholm's best cafés in 2007.
Over the years the sisters’ culinary skills have attracted increasing amounts of media coverage, and in 2005 they were approached by several publishers to develop a cookbook of their own. Their debut publication, Two Sisters' Sweets (Forum Press), has sold over 22,000 copies to date (a "bestseller" in Sweden sells 5,000 copies). The book is now in its fifth printing, and in 2006 it won an award for Best Dessert Cookbook of the Year in Sweden. Additionally, it won the Best Cookbook Cover in the World category of the 2006 Gourmand World Cookbook Awards.
In September 2006, Lisa and Monica released their second anticipated book, Soups, Breads, and Spreads (Forum Press), which sold out one week after it was released and is now it its fourth printing and has sold over 14,000 copies to date. Their most recent cookbook, Christmas Sweets (Forum Press), was published in the fall of 2007 and in the course of 3 months sold over 14,500 copies. They are currently working on their fourth book, Summer Sweets, which will appear in the summer of 2009. In addition, they have many other books conceptualized.
Born in Washington, D.C., raised in Sweden, the United States, and Ethiopia, and educated in France and Spain, the two sisters have honed a gastronomic palate that draws upon influences from around the world. Their passion for travel and food inspired the idea of a combined café and bookstore dedicated exclusively to cookbooks.
The sisters' meteoric rise on the Swedish culinary scene has led to intense press coverage. They have been featured in Sweden's major media outlets including national television and radio channels as well as major newspapers and magazines. In a 2007 television program documenting Sweden's leading female cookbook authors through time, Lisa and Monica were featured as representatives of the contemporary era.
In addition to their innovative culinary work, the sisters lead all design and production of their books, including art direction, graphic design, food styling, and print oversight. This complimentary set of skills has helped them to succeed in a very competitive cookbook market: Sweden publishes more cookbooks per capita than any country in the world. Lisa and Monica are now preparing to leverage their Swedish success in the international market.
